Caving Tours in Iceland
There is a variety of cave exploration tours in Iceland.
Did you know that Iceland offers fantastic diving?With a visibility of more than 100 m (330 ft), it is probably the clearest water to dive in on this planet.
The water has penetrated through the lava for more than 30 years before it streams into dive site Silfra (lady of Silver). Silfra is situated in the National Park Þingvellir, the Parliament Plains, where the settlers established the Icelandic parliament back in the year 930.
The lava ravine is formed because of the separation of the continental plates Eurasia and America. A constant flux of crystal clear water sustains the extraordinary visibility of the site.
Another lava ravine dive site, Bjarnagja, is on the Reykjanes Peninsula where the North Atlantic ridge crawls on to shore. Although Bjarnagjá is much smaller than Silfra opportunity for a unique diving experience in a volcanic area with craters and boiling mud pools.
In addition to the lava ravine sites described above many sea sites are in the vicinity of our dive center. Some of these are reachable from the shore while others require boat.
The visibility in the ocean is very variable and can be up to 15 m (45 ft). The visibility is generally best in the wintertime. However, in periods of calm weather the visibility in the summertime may be up to 10 m (30 ft) offering a good opportunity to explore the marine life in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Strýtan the geothermal chimney in the Fjord Eyjarfjörður is another example of an absolutly unique and amazing dive site.
During the last 10.000 years hot springs at the bottom of the 70 meter deep ocean have created a 55 meter high chimney that can be dived from a boat.
