Leiðarendi
A large lava tube close to Reykjavik
The cave Leiðarendi is located close to Reykjavik in about 30 min. driving distance and it´s 900 meters offer unique lave tube formations such as the lava stalactites and stalagmites and the sharktooth stalactites that bear witness to the extreme enviroment inside the tube those two thousand years ago. Some climbing and crawling is required but Leiðarendi cave gives an easy access to this cool underworld of the Icelandic lavafield that surrounds the capital area.
Spooky: The name Leiðarendi means: End of The Road and refers to the skeletal remains of a lamb that was found inside the cave when it was first discovered about 20 years ago.
